Er gehörte zu den stilprägenden Musikern des Jazz, speziell im Bebop und Hardbop. Seine wichtigsten Platten veröffentlichte er auf dem Kultlabel BLUE NOTE RECORDS. Freddie Hubbard war einer der bedeutendsten Trompeter der Jazzgeschichte. Im Alter von 70 Jahren erlag er einem Herzinfakt in Los Angeles. R.i.P.

1. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
This album is named so perfectly. Favorite tracks include "Electric Feel" and "Kids". Sometimes with an 80s electro-feel. I can't put into words how off-guard I was caught the first time I heard Oracular Spectacular.

2. Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
One million plus fans (in one week) can't be wrong, right? Jokes aside, eff the haters, I think Lil Wayne made a great pop album. Plus it was hilarious to see all the positive press that Wayne got on this album. This might be just a guilty pleasure... but it's a damn good one if you ask me! Hell, dude more than doubled-up Kanye when you compare both of their first-week numbers! That is hilarious to me!

3. Portishead - Third
I was a Portishead fan the first time I heard Dummy. after a 10 year hiatus, Portishead finally released another album. It might take the average listener more than a few listens to get into "Third", but this album made my Top 10 list on nostalgia alone! This trip-hop album fills a void that I haven't felt since Portishead's last release.

4. Santogold - s/t
This former A&R exec knocked me on my ass with her debut. At times a little MIA-ish, but an entertaining listen every time!

5. Vampire Weekend - s/t
Despite sounding as white as possible, there's something about their music that is definitely Afro-pop influenced as well.

6. Girl Talk - Don't Feed The Animals
Mash-ups can't be done any better. And I know a lot of folks HATE mash-ups...but Girl Talk does such an amazing job choosing the songs he uses for his mixes that it's sure to make the listener go back and say "did he really just use...?" more than a few times!

7. Al Green
Who would've thought that this legend might have released the best R&B album of the year? I'm not kidding...

8. Q-Tip - The Renaissance
Wow. It took forever for Q-Tip to release the follow-up to his first solo-effort, but man was this album worth the wait! In my humble-opinion, Q-Tip did a great job of making me feel like I would feel when I listened to ATCQ back in the day, while still having as "modern" of a sound that one would ever want from this legend.

9. Buff1 - There's Only One
Okay, so I troll a lot of blogs and sites like Okayplayer, and happened to notice there were two new-comers this year that seemed to get a lot of love in the blog-o-sphere at some point this summer. One of which was Buff1, the other being Mickey Factz. Mickey Factz seemed to disappear as quickly as he showed up, but this dude Buff1 seemed to continue to pop-up. This album really snuck on my list this year, and I probably would've slept on Buff1 if it wasn't for a dope review on Okayplayer, and all the blog-love this kid was getting. I end up finding out that this is his second album a year after his debut Pure, and if he keeps making albums like this, dude is going to be around for a long time.

10. N.E.R.D - Seeing Sounds
Finishing up the top 10 is Skateboard P and the crew. You can't count on Pharrell to come through with a thorough full length when he's working by himself, but when N.E.R.D. comes together you always get an all around solid effort. It's hard to place them higher in the list, becuase their reputation sets the bar kind of high, but from the minute I heard, "Hundred dolla bills, look achoo look achoo", they were on the top 10 radar.

Arthur "Party Arty" Sheridan, legendärer Rapper der Ghetto Dwellas und der Diggin' In The Crates (D.I.T.C.) Crew ist am vergangenen Donnerstag verstorben. Über eine genaue Ursache und den vergangenen gesundheitlichen Zustand des MCs ist allerdings nicht bekannt.

DJ Premier erklärte auf seinem Blog in einem Statement:

MICATONE haben gerade erst zu Weihnachten erstklassige Coverversionen des Wham!-Hits „Last Christmas“ auf Sonar Kollektiv veröffentlicht, live präsentieren sie Ausschnitte aus ihrem neuen Album, das 2009 in den Läden stehen wird. Ihr neues Album betont die Livefähigkeiten dieser außergewöhnlichen Band um Sängerin Lisa Bassenge. Die Band hat sich von ihrer leicht elektronisch gefärbten Vergangenheit verabschiedet.
MICATONE verarbeiten in ihren neuen Songs ihre Vorliebe für Musik der 60er Jahre wie Soul, Country und Blues. Als Gäste für das neue Album konnte neben dem Calexico-Trompeter Martin Wenk niemand geringeres als Tindersticks-Sänger Stuart A. Staples gewonnen werden. Live auf der Bühne am Heiligabend stehen zur Stammbesetzung die Backgroundsängerinnen Becky & Grace, einigen sicher bekannt von den Auftritten der MS Platnum. MISS KENICHI


MISS KENICHI hat im Oktober 2008 ihr 2. Album Fox auf Strange Ways veröffentlicht. Die Songwriterin malt mit ihren Songs kleine Szenen und Momentaufnahmen. Sie bringt mit einem Satz eine ganze Geschichte ins Rollen. Auf dem Hidden Track ihres Albums „Will you wake up before the Ground“ singt sie mit der autralischen Indielegende Hugo Race zusammen. Sie sagt von sich selbst: „Mich interessieren unebene Wege, die nicht zu den bekannte Orten führen“

Florian Keller is back - with a bang. His latest Party Keller mix does all the talking for him, showing why the man is in such demand in his native Germany and throughout Europe.

To hear Florian Keller on the decks means you can always expect Funk - in an open minded manner, presented on original vinyl with handcrafted mixing-skills. Whether its a super rare and obscure 45, an early Discorap 12" , a nugget from the golden days of Hip Hop, that classic Rare-Groove tune that or a recent banger that just fits right in: Florian stays away from trainspotter-only snobism and plays pure quality all the way...

In Florian's words..."I started to dj and seriously care about Funk 45's from the mid 80's on, back in the days where you could find records for $5.00 that are worth hundreds of times the price today. No surprise then that my record collection seems to be well-respected by the top funk collectors. My passion was always for the music in the first place, so sometimes one great tune had to be given up so I had the budget for five or ten great other records. For example I had to sell Ricky Calloway's "Tell Me" which went to Keb Darge, or Ebony Rhythm Band which went to Malcolm Catto ages ago (with another copy going to Ian Wright later) or Darling Dears' "I Love You" that went Gerald Jazzman"

Some collectors at this level are so snobbish that they won't tell each other about new discoveries, some of them don't even consider brand new music worth buying and some of them wont even play their super rare records. Florian is definitely NOT one of these people, he's not all about records, he just wants to share good music with everybody and he plays in a style that is truly amazing.
