Interview DJ MARKY & XRS

  1. Tell us about your new Cd ,,In Rotation”:

The album took about 2 and a half years to be completed. we were working on the tracks without the expectation of doing an album, this idea came about an year ago; it’s called ‘In Rotation’ because the tracks were done while we were on tour so it reflects all the influences we got from that, all the people we met, all different styles and vibes they brought with’em. We expect people enjoy listening to it as much we enjoyed doing it.

  1. How was to work with Vikter Duplaix? Will there be more cooperationsin the future?

It was a great experience. We met last year and knew of his work and he was really excited about coming to Brasil.. we spent a week hanging out and on the last day went into the studio..within a few takes, Vikter had it recorded the way he wanted..he’s a real pro and the vocals on Moments of Lust are really very very special.. I think people will eventually really hear the detail in that track.

  1. Due to your smash hit “LK” – the Drum’n'Bass Scene got a new freshness. What has changed since that point especially for you?

LK was a big exposure for us, we can’t deny it. It’s still strange to see ourselves as worldwide known DJ’s/Producers, but also it brought credibility for our productions which is being great.

  1. You have a great status as Djs in Brazil. Tell us few things about the scene?

Drum’n'bass scene in Brasil is big, now spreaded to other parts of country with very good new talents appearing from cities like Brasilia, Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and of course Sao Paulo, where it started. It started in the suburbs of east side of Sao Paulo by early 90′s with dj’s switching from other styles like Acid House and Hip Hop, for example to Hardcore, then to Jungle/D’n'b. Drum’n'bass has been pushed mainly by DJ’s like Marky, Patife, Andy, Koloral, myself (XRS), Marnel, Ramilson, Drumagick… Basically most of us were influenced by UK DJ’s like Bryan Gee, Goldie, Doc Scott, Die, Roni Size, the first DJ’s who came over to play here; those dj’s kinda brought the dubplate culture, the wish on having tunes that would be released 1, 2 years later… It also pushed on the production side; we were trying hard to get that ‘right tight sound’. Jungle was really really big in Sao Paulo until 96, when we had a downtime; then d’n'b started to become bigger again by 97/98 and since then it never stopped to grow up, reaching other parts of the country as well.

  1. Do you play only D’n'B in your Sets?

usually yes.

  1. Why should the consumer buy “In Rotation”?

The album captures all the music we’ve been listening to so it is not only a dancefloor album; but it is also a reflection of what was going on our soul and our day-by-day as well. and great to listen to.

  1. In according to the track “Tijuana Frogs”- Will be your next project a house record?

Ah..probably not..but you know like this track and “terapia” we just tried some different vibes… while D&B is the main thread we always listen and mess around with other sounds and beats…but we don’t see ourselves as future House producers.. but it’s nice to experiment.. the real house guys are the NEEDS guys, man!!

  1. At the moment you are promoting your new record. What are your impressions from Germany?

Always a good place to visit.. people seem to like the stuff we play and the music we make so that’s always a good sign…

  1. Will there be any remix for “In Rotation” ( for instant on 12inch )?

Yeah we’re working on some at the moment. Nu Tone is doing a track and also Jazzanova and Adam F and Fresh are working on one as well..but looking for others in the future… even Laurent Garnier is interested as we offered to do something for him..!

  1. You are still travelling around the world – Where is the best party crowd?

I love playing in UK as much as I do in Brasil, I get the same energy from the crowd, not only in UK but other places as well, recently we’ve been in USA and other parts of Europe and it’s great as well, the only difference i reckon is when in Brazil we get that feeling of being at home…
